An interesting thread so far...with seemingly valid points for and against.

A looming world energy crisis, only exacerbated by the likeliness of 'PEAK OIL' having already passed us, will no doubt further the push for the search and/or establishment of alternative methods of energy production . Will this lead to an increased demand for nuclear energy? Undoubtedly, it will. But just how much of an increased demand??

The Earth's finite supply of resources will dictate that costs will continue to increase over time, across all sectors, and all industry, leaving nothing unaffected. In times like these, and times still to come, there will be a reluctance to part with investment dollars into anything with degrees of uncertainty. Even that which seemingly looks certain will struggle, and only that which had been proven over the test of time will stand firm.

In relation to energy production, while civilisation will at some point be forced to look for alternatives to the current foundation of carbon-based methods, I believe that the push to do so will be far more drawn out than most here would hope for, and far slower than what is actually needed. There is no shortage of global reserves of coal....and it's utilisation as an energy source, despite it's devastating effects on our biosphere, will become (and we are already seeing this) a preferred option. The infrastructure and industry is already firmly in place, without the need to spend billions upon billions of dollars as would be needed to further expand the nuclear industry worldwide. The time will come when nations will will be very hard-pressed to be be economically viable, and the demand for cheap energy, at any cost, will prevail....and nothing is cheaper than coal. The Kyoto Protocol, and alike, will count for very little then. It will only be when it is far too late that a concerted effort will be mounted to move away from carbon-based energy production, when the world will have it's hand forced. Until then, it can be expected that current methods will stand firm.

BMN is certainly one of the better uranium companies out there, with a proven resource....and if any have a chance to move forward, it would certainly be up there...furthermore, for all it's negatives, nuclear energy production is really the only viable alternative we have at present, to ensure that civilisation doesn't choke on it's own filth....we have left all other cleaner alternatives on the shelf for far too long.

However, the future looks uncertain at best, and under those circumstances, humanity has always run to that which it already knows well.

I fear that we will choose the path of self-destruction instead.
