Not knocking your comparison to coal -once you get amongst it similar stratigraphy. It's just with the weathering as RIO comment identifying the stratigraphy is difficult. Early days -
For instance where we are great boulders on the slopes -everything from BIF to friable itabirites - hematite - magnetite - geothite and goethitic canga.
