I think the reason for the US haste into Iraq was bigger than getting some oil from Iraq. The US has been used to controlling the supply of Middle East oil and hence world economic direction. Europe and Russia were making big inroads into the ME oil politics and are still doing so; this will result in the US losing the power of the oil weapon on other nations. Eventually the war in Iraq will be ended with a round table conference of oil consumers where the US will take a smaller role than previous. China is an enormous user of power now and India will not be far behind. Those two nations are close to the ME and can be expected to exert some influence. The producers and consumers must get together, not forgetting the people in those countries, and get some lasting agreements ....but not at the point of a gun.
