Chinese dont have much to lose nor left to play. REEs arent a huge market to the Chinese in profits over tarrifs and currency. Currency hits most mining shares. China wont go too far on currency or it hurts in other ways. They can drop REE prices after they play the card much like they did last time if need be. Sure Lynas emerged. But its a low cost producer with Jap loan backing. It allows another low cost producer (eg one of the lowest GGG) to potentially step in but yet given future demand still not really ill effect things. The market knows this. But GGG is Chinese partnered anyway.
Headlines doubted the Chinese would do such a thing to Japan last time. But yet they did. Even if China talks of it Watch the money shift from this sell down in markets into a smaller REE market. Its much like last time all this unfolded.
I think Trump is going to return fire and China is out of bullets. They just have so little left to play. Remember it just takes a headline and away we go.
US has had big drops in the Dow and its correction back to former levels in trade war tensions. Next is usually a sharp bounce. Dow shock hit GGG this morning. But looking thin back to 15.5.
Might be time to buy a few as it could be a good op at oversubscribed Inst car raise prices where a buying presence may hide to grab an equivelant deal..
Meanwhile REEs post gains as the market gets interest and stockpiling away show signs the Chinese sense that perhaps REEs are next on the cards......fundementally a bounce forming to me.

Grabbed a few at 12.5 , nearly at issue prices to instos.
Agree with your assessment of a sharp bounce.
Watch LYC as an indicator, share price there anticipates already such measures by the Chinese, due to few options to choose from.
My personal view is that we are only one reaction from Trump away for such measures.
He acted already against his input of his advisors, easy to fathom he does it again.
