The Northstar business is relatively new and is designed to be very efficient and has a market that has a much more targeted customer and product (mainly Hot Rolled Coil) base. The Port Kembla business has been designed around Flat products that are required in the Australian Market and therefore produces many more product types than the Northstar business. The PK steelworks has been pretty well self-sufficient since the major restructure back in 2014 so bailouts aren't really an issue anymore. Close PK and therefore no more tax paid in Australia and therefore no more franking credits. No thanks.
