Blowy,
Look for group public training classes, they are inexpensive, and remember you go there to learn to teach your dog.
When you go home, morning and evening you spend 10 -15 minutes training him if he is a pup.
They have short attention span when they are young.
I worked from home and had him with me all the time from when he was 6 weeks.
So trained him in short cessions over many times a day.
The instructors at the classes will show you.
People are always impressed with an owner of a well behave dog.
Teach your dog to be a friend to every one.
I meet a guy who had a Rotty and he would give the command to watch, when his girlfriend came around, jokingly.
Bad move, he married her and had to get rid of dog, for dog didn't trust wife.
Your dog will be looking at you for guidance, you will need to observing him for his response.
I didn't realize, I was saying casual"OK" in a lot of instances.
One day he was on by boat on the beach. I was on my mates boat, and I was calling him to come over.
He was watching me and ready to go but wouldn't come.
Finally got frustrated and said "OK" he launch off like a missile.
That day he taught me that "OK" was the command that released him.
A well trained dog is a pleasure, but you have to spend time with him if you want a GREAT mate.
It's a two way street.
cheers,
sypaladin
