The reason the Cold War "worked" was because both the US and USSR had self interest at heart. I'm not convinced there is much sanity in the Middle East. And I don't think it will be Moslem vs 'The rest". It will be Shia vs Sunni. One accuses the other (don't remember which) of poisoning Mohammed. The hatred towards the West is a sideshow.
