I am finding the whole Americas Cup a farce and huge waste of taxpayers money. It should be renamed the Grant Dalton Benevolent Fund Cup. He has conned successive Governments in NZ to back a yacht race as it will help promote NZ and the boat building industry. He has been the main benefactor.
There were only 3 challengers and American boat skippered by a New Zealander and an Italian Boat skippered by an Australian and a tugboat skippered by a Pom. TV in NZ covers the yacht racing but what other countries are taking live feeds?
Far better the throw the money at say a major golf Tournament with 100 competitors not 3 or a cycle race through the South Island promoting the likes of Wanaka and Queenstown where NZers south of Jaffa land could benefit.
Yacht racing is better when watching the Olympics or the Sydney Hobart where tactics are as equal as technology.
Hopefully the Americas Cup will revert to traditional yachts in the future.
If NZ win 7-0 it will make it more of a farce, but does the rest of the world care?
