Despite the article being a few yaers old I reckon AIS and AMI should both be brushing up on their takeover defences, AMI has turned around its performance in the last few years but AIS continues to lurch from crisis to crisis, the entire AIS board and management need to go in my opinion, and both AIS and AMI have had differeing share trajectories with AMI improving and AIS being stuck in the mud. POL switched back on their mine but again cannot fill their mill.

There must be synergies available with MAC AIS AMI and POL all scrapping over not enough resources (well, actually not enough shallow easy to get tonnes) and excess mill capacity, PEX happy to continue to drill into infinity and never make a move to go into production. Now that MAC looks like its going to fall to Harmony Gold, surely if Harmony are smart they can consolidate the entire Cobar region and get the right tonnes in the right mill? Seeing as the ASX cannot price copper and base metal producers properly, it might be a good opportunity for someone like Harmony to swoop in and do it. Looks like Glencore have mentally checked out of Australian base metals entirely otherwise I would have thought that this region would be a natural Glencore consolidation. The other possibility is other cashed up ASX or Foreign gold miners who all say they want increased exposure to copper, but never do anything about it.
