    Amino acids are just the component parts of protein.

    They aren't a drug or any sort of "unatural" compund.

    When you eat meat, eggs, fish, dairy, or any vegetable source of protein, you will digest it and break it down into its component parts...amino acids.

    Taking supplemental amino acids is just another way to get something which you are already getting from your food.

    The advantage? Well, with (non-lean) meat for example you get other stuff you might not want...fat for example. Amino acid supplements give you a very pure and clean source without other stuff which might be in meat. Even with fish you need to be careful with mercury contamination from our polluted waters...so...protein supplements actually are less dangerous than some food sources of protein.

    Also, food requires a digestion process...it takes time and energy to break the food down into the aminos. With amino acid supplements, it hits your bloodstream quicker and easier.

    Protein shakes and amino supplements are great when you have a lifestyle which causes you to skip meals. It is very quick and convenient to get your high-quality protein, and all the benefits of such, whilst on the go.

    Nothing to fear...just don't take in more protein than you need. Anything in excess is bad for you...even water will kill you if you drink enough of it (you drown).
