Mate you r spot on. Western world has achieved it’s goals of easing forced labour, etc by changing the whole system. Not by eradicating some parts. The socio-economic means, like in Asia, with no jobs no matter how cheap or dangerous, the other option is worse - from trafficking to prostitution to starvation. As an example the children born in extreme poverty are part of the economic foundation of the hoysehold, especially the boys. They do not have welfare or any government support. The choice is simple - join a workforce with poor conditions, enter crime or militia or terrorism, or just stay at home and eventually starve to death. Yes work conditions need to be improved. However to say every child should be in school when they can’t even find their next meal is typical ignorant keyboard warriors sitting on a plush sofa assessing the world from their comforts. To say we should close down these mines without addressing the other issues , when that would cause these children to have the worse outcomes. Ultimately it is politics. Apple had no issues until they made their money. Why not return all profits made out of unethical modes. The self righteous tend to be louder after having their cake.
