A DEFIANT Amrozi bin Nurhasyim today declared he was not afraid to die as he awaited tomorrow's verdict and possible death penalty in the Bali bombing trials.

Amrozi, the so-called smiling assassin, appeared in court today in the case of Mubarok, a co-accused in the bombings, but refused to testify or even verify his signature on documents.

A panel of five judges will tomorrow hand down its verdict on Amrozi, the first to be charged under Indonesia's anti-terrorism laws.

Amrozi faces a maximum sentence of death for allegedly planning and carrying out the Bali attack, which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.

But when asked today by a reporter if he was afraid to die, Amrozi shot back: "No, do you want to try?"
