I'm not an expert but if there is a sale there shares are either take a over at a value which generally needs a certain percentage eg 75 per cent ect at a $ value
or the take over company could offer so many shares in their company for a certain number of shares that you hold eg 1:1 or 1: 5 ect depending on the value they place on the outgoing company
it depends on the offer and shareholders and board consider even if the board rejects the offer shareholders may accept the offer
