You can see it in the divide between how the actual economy is performing vs the bs on the news. Both the US and Australian economy are performing well, both jobs and growth suggest same. The reality is as much as you might feel like an "investor" buying into stock market, the reality is you have zero control over the performance of the company you have put money into, and while we can get a tangible benefit from buying things, most investing on stock market is just hype that materialises to nothing.
