I have been watching with great interest the developments of both Rum Jungle's Lake Mackay South and Lake Hopkins projects as well as Reward Minerals Lake Disappointment and Karley projects. On the commodity front I think agribusiness is going to be the next big thing and that Potash will play a big part in an upcoming agribusiness boom.
I guess this is not exactly breaking news given Gina Rinehart, Andrew Forrest and the Chinese are buying up farms in Australia and major Ord River stage 2 leases being awarded to the Chinese, for which they will no doubt require large amounts of potash. This sentiment also appears to be mirrored by Jim Rogers who appears to be telling anyone who will listen that.…"Agriculture is about to become one of the most exciting industries in the world for the next 20 or 30 years." http://www.sbs.com.au/dateline/story/transcript/id/600014/n/Interview-with-Jim-Rogers
Within the potash industry, SOP potash commands a significant premium to MOP and then the best SOP projects come down to who has the lowest costs of production. On that front I believe the SOP brine deposit projects that we are lucky to have in Australia are amongst the best in the world, particularly those up around the Great Sandy Desert given the low rainfall and high evaporation potential.
From my research on this area, it appears that Rum Jungle have positioned themselves nicely. Reward Minerals also have some excellent tenements in this area, but have unfortunately been caught up in Native Title issues for years. They do however appear to be working through those now. I believe this whole area could be the next global potash province based on the nature of these deposits ..…. Cheers all!
