Well said JP, my back ground is also a mix of ADF and Offshore.

7 years in the RAN as a CSO-AC (ASAC) controlling fixed and rotor wing aircraft, and have now been offshore on mid/deepwater semi submersibles for the same company for 8 years in Australia, East Timor and Malaysia as a Ballast Control Operator (Maintains the stability of the rig amongst other things). Started off like most others in the industry as a Roustabout and worked my way up.

I'm not sure I love going to work as much as you say you do, but once I'm back around my crew things are good and we have a great laugh.

I do have a wonderful wife which allows me to do this kind of work while she takes care of the kiddos. Yes we do miss out on a lot of special occasions but I honestly think I get more quality time with my family than most of my mates working normal jobs back home.

It can be a dangerous job with many challenges and no two days are ever the same, but it's the game we chose to play...
