I love these people/Shareholders screaming for a bailout from the government. Save me, reward failure, let someone else pay for the mistakes. If QF shuts down, the aviation world will not end, I imagine VirginAustralia will pick up a large portion of the market.

Robbing money from the productive and rewarding failure never works in the long run. If you want to know the result of this kind of ideology than look what happened to the USSR. If the company cannot work anymore than the market is trying to cleanse its out, where someone can start an equivalent up with a fresh productive base. The new QANTAS could be relaunched and the end result would be better than the status quo. Yes there would be a short period of pain, but any bailout just ensures another decade of crap. QF could also restructure and free itself of some of the prehistoric cost structures that its competitors including the Asian, Arab and Virgin Australia are unburdened with.

I travel allot between the major cities on both QF and DJ. The QANTAS lounge is pathetic compared to Virgin, end of story. I get on a brand new plane with Virgin, whilst I get on a left over from TAA that’s 20 years old more often than not with QF. Have you seen how crap the worn out 737-400’s and 767-300’s are inside? Also the delay rate is much higher due to breakdowns. Everything is old and worn out at QF, from the tiny Commodore64 driven monitors that display the gates, the planes, the staff, and on and on. The bathrooms in QF terminal are disgusting, whilst Virgin are updated, modern and clean. The Y class food is a total joke and usually uneatable; leaving me starving as I cant buy something that is. The J class meals have deteriorated every year for the last decade. At Virgin my full Y class meal is great and everyone eats them instead of throwing them in the rubbish bag that comes with the meal at QF. The Virgin J class meals are a real meal, although the main portions are sometimes small. But they offer free fresh sandwiches to fill any gaps. When QF runs late, it stays late. Virgin seem are on time much more often; probably because the planes where made this century!

OK I’m sure this is painful for some; but I think an honest overview is needed before it’s too late. This patriotic stuff needs to be put aside, as this is a business and ceased being something special when they floated the company. The old QF is gone and has been for a long time. The company has lost out to foreign carriers providing superior service and price and now Virgin is about to kill them domestically. People need to wake up. The company needs to stop fighting staff over those cost, especially their skilled labour (Pilots, Mechanics etc...) and concentrate on the product which is crap.

QF shareholders have no right to take my tax $ and reward failure. This socialist crap has never worked, and i have no doubt result in the company becoming even worse. End of story!
