Your reasoning makes sense to me. I have never shorted a stock and am unlikely to ever do so.

It requires getting the judgemnet right on a short term basis as opposed to buy and hold which affords duration.

One of my largest holdings is a mining service company (LYL), I believe they are an exception but time will tell.
