I showed the (short) video to some audio mastering engineer mates, and neither could tell me precisely what the software's interface design was doing in detail.
In a testing environment, 5-bit playback makes a lot of sense.A lower bit rate would be essential to test things like quantization noise, which is more pronounced at lower bit rates but a factor in any recording (unless they've figured this out?). Or they could use it to simplify the signal to a 'stair-step' waveform; multiple samples would be generated at the same amplitude over time - allowing them to see how the chip works more efficiently in the recording. Maybe?
It's fun to guess, but no one on HC knows. I see the video is now private - lol.
