Propaganda aside I see Assad as being not much more than an Iranian puppet. Further to that Putin has facilitated the dismemberment of what was once Syria for sale of a gas line through Turkey.

Back to Assad ..... his father Hafez would not have allowed the situation to descend to where it got in 2011. Bashar failed in his duty to reign the sadists and other assorted clowns in and his country has paid the price since. I would have hoped by now that Assad would have learned some political maturity. Maybe in some ways he has BUT his leadership team now appears filled with Iranian and Russian flunkies . I don't hat Assad an more ... I just feel pity.
As posted, Putin is currently dancing on quicksand IMHO. He pretends to be a puppet master but the puppets all have evil intentions of their own.
