You get what you pay for.
Pay a pittance to state politicians / local councillors ....... well you know the result.
However, abolishing state govts, the further merger of local councils, further streamlining of services (ie further privatisation) therefore reduces the numbers required to govern. Therefore better pay available for better governance.
Pretty simple actually.
