What we have seen in the last 30 or so years is after a significant outlier on the down side, the following year usually has a greater extent and is considered a rebound. The crowing we see now is no different from the crowing that occurred post the 2007 extent minima from the same suspects.

The use of the satellite data, while short term (30 years), gives us the most accurate and reliable data to date. This satellite data is undoubtedly in serious down trend. Out to 100 years the extents were measured by ship/submarine observations and limited flight data. This data also displays a significant down trend, with a little more uncertainty. Goddard regularly goes on about the extents in the 1930's being less than now and this is quickly parroted around the denial-sphere. Other than anecdotal newspaper clippings, there nothing to support his claim. You can look for yourself. The Danish have their observation records available to view, have a look at the 1930's and compare it to the 1981-2010 median and especially the 2013 extent minima for context. The data are here: http://brunnur.vedur.is/pub/trausti/Iskort/Pdf/

Then if you look at the research that looks at the last 1450 years of the Arctic, the current conditions are still outside the box on the down side. Even when uncertainties in the data are considered. The data was calculated using ice cores, lake sediment cores, ocean sediment cores, tree rings and historic documentation.

I have looked and I cannot find any reference to your claimed 5 Arctic cycles. Please post a link or at least describe these cycles, their extent and how they were calculated.

Going back to Goddards "Coldest Summer" call. When you look at the historic temperature profiles in the Arctic you see that there are significant variations in the annual winter temperatures, however due to the consummation of heat by the melting of the ice in summer the temperature is moderated and the difference between a cold and hot summer are minimal. So it is really not that much of a big deal in the scheme of things.
