In this modern age do we REALLY need a national broadcaster owned by the government?
If so, why?
And what should it do?
Do we need it to run a 24hr news channel for instance, when we are already able to access so much news it cannot be consumed.
I can think of some merit for the kids channels as the private sector media won't touch it, but cannot think of much else that needs government intervention.
ABC radio, particularly the local regional stations, seem to offer a very good service to people in country and rural areas.
Without getting into the leftie rightie bias argument, I just wonder if we need the whole setup like it is currently.
