I have watched the HC thread on UMC with interest. Overlooking the libel statements lets look at some FACTS 'ohyeah76' who says he has no shares or opinion - well you certainly have the latter ....
1. The shareholders decide if the BHP bid will succeed - not the directors
2. They is legally bound to give an opinion once a bid is received - if you don't like it vote against it. Dead easy.
3. BHP is not a philanthropic organization and will pay as little as they can to acquire Railway - if they can.
4. The UMC share price has been below the BHP bid since it was made - so there appears to be no chance of a counter bid. If UMC is such a bargain at $1.30 then where is the buyer?
5. Some say UMC has no management skills in mining - rubbish - the new Chairman conceived and initiated the Super Pit at Kalgoorlie and ran the third largest gold mining company in the world BIG - Mal Randal was decades of experience in iron ore mining. Fehlberg and his team made a sensation discovery at Railway. UMC would not have owned the Railway lease without Hogan having snapped it up for the company. What a list of failures!
6. UMC owns a large stake in POZ - have none of you yet worked out how that came to happen? I suggest that UMC was not given these shares out of charity - so engage brains. Caveat emptor on POZ.
7. A BHP conspiracy as some have suggested - oh get real - BHP does not need to play such games
8. Non board members involved in Board decisions at UMC - again get real - the world is not like that.
9. Directors unloading cheap shares - anyone could have bought UMC in the 40c to 60c slot when the technical charts gave their buy signal after the global financial meltdown. Don't moan if you didn't. Presumably envy is the factor here? So go start your own exploration companies and see where you get to.
10. Finally - no-one on HC seems able to explain why anyone - and I mean anyone - would want to get $1.30/share if it was possible to get better. The price is clearly low and disappointing but it looks as though it may be the best anyone is going to get - otherwise the share price would be trading above the BHP bid price.
Like others this is my last UMC posting - to those who have made a positive contribution 'many thanks' - to those who see a conspiracy under ever stone 'grow up'
