One of the museum’s I visited whilst living in London, stated that the garbage, including human waste, and of course the huge amount of horses of the day was just pushed into the River Thames.
To the point that the amount of crap actually stopped the flow of the river.
Anyone who has visited London will know that it flows at a pretty fair clip.
So all in all, a pretty fair effort.
