glug --so we are very clear optus street cable is optus street cable it runs back to their computerised digital switching equipment in the telstra telephone exchange and when you make a call on optus it goes back to the exchange and into the telstra network if this were not so you would not be able to ring all those obscure remote places.etc etc so the data travels through telstras network which is a lot more sophisticated than just two copper wire30 years ago you would regularly have congestion from data traffic ringing sydney or capital to capital today it is unheard of,it seems there are manby people on hc who dont realise that telstra is the national network, that is a fact and mr krudd wants the network back not so much because of technological superiority but in the main because it offers absolutely enormous bandwidth which with digital transmission provides an almost infinite ability to charge for exclusive bits of bandwidth,it would unquestionably provide a platform for real communication
competition from every media available and the govt would retain control.

my preference would be for a regulatory platform that telcos can join to develop a cohesive state of the art system through competition and over a period of time with the investment world contributing and the consumer paaying along the way
