Image takes another look at basin

A FRESH interpretation of the mineral sands geology of the North Perth Basin has prompted up-and-coming explorer Image Resources to triple its land holding in the region.



Image, which made rapid progress on its Cooljarloo minerals sands project in the basin over the course of 2006, said it had applied for three tenements covering a total of 1100 square kilometres, adding to its initial 560sq.km holding.

Image said its success at Cooljarloo had prompted the company to expand the scope of its exploration to the basin's older Mesozoic sediments.

"The thick channel-style mineralisation discovered at Cooljarloo is interpreted to occur within these older sediments beneath the shallow younger Pleistocene sediments, which have been the subject of most of the HM exploration in the North Perth Basin to date," Image said.

The company said all three new tenements contained tens of kilometres of interpreted shoreline features. Image will carry out reconnaissance ground magnetic surveys "in the near future", with aircore drilling to follow-up significant targets.

Shares in Image gained 13c to close at $2.13 yesterday, and had jumped another 17c in morning trade today.
