I certainly appreciate what the Romans added to modern civilisation, but to say that those roads are comparable to modern day equivalents, is quite comical.

My point was also that the builders of yesteryear did not have the same level of tertiary qualifications that our current engineers have.

I wonder how many of the 'modern' roads will be around in 2000 years compared to the old Roman roads

Now that would be a point of comic relief
