Fuziah: Lynas still can not 'clean'News | PublishedJune 10, 2019, 6:28 am | UpdatedJune 10, 2019, 6:28 amA + A -Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd has yet to be 'cleaned' from allegedly producing hazardous waste, said Kuantan Member of Parliament Fuziah Salleh.Fuziah said the detection of groundwater pollution requires 'more frequent, prolonged and tedious monitoring' methods."The conclusions can only be made after any convincing statistics are based on several types of samples taken repeatedly throughout the season to take account of seasonal change factors."This type of pollution has serious consequences on public health and the environment for the long term," he said in a statement today.Fuziah said this in response to Lynas's statement last week that alleged Lynas operations in Gebeng produce harmful waste proved to be incorrect. The claim following the statement by Water Minister, Land and Natural Resources Dr Xavier Jayakumar last month that groundwater around the Lynas plant was no longer subject to heavy metals.Deputy Secretary-General at the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change, Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu also made a statement that the sudden rise in heavy metal readings in groundwater around the Gebeng plant was not due to Lynas."This statement is consistent with the results of underground monitoring and analysis by Lynas Malaysia," the company said.In fact, Fuziah said Lynas had always denied that its operation caused serious heavy metal pollution. However, Fuziah said that data taken for a period of 12 months since September 2015 from the company's underground monitoring station itself shows the opposite."It is true that Lynas will not confess the pollution, because if he claims he will be responsible for the pollution."As a rare earth mining company that is said to be quite new, its future depends on its ability to conceal the real problem it is facing in Malaysia," he said.Fuziah also tells the rest of Lynas that the radioactive nature (Norm) is considered radioactive in Australia."Most poisons are also found naturally, if released into our environment or our body, we will be poisoned."The same logic can also be used against Lynas's natural (natural radioactive) Norms," he said.
