Afternoon spudnick,
What do you call this?
"this is all MY OPINION, and it won't be changed by you or anyone."
I call it opinionated!
You sound like a missionary with a machine gun.
I wonder how many of you have actually been to Roxby Downs and spent any time at the mine. It is an extraordinary place made all the more extraordinary by the way it was discovered. The original "Olympic Dam" is still intact. This dam is close to the site of the original "discovery hole" made by Western Mining when BHP was busy losing Coronation Hill. If BHP had less of the "missionary with a machine gun" attitude then we could have negotiated a clever arrangement there as well.
BHP bought out Western Mining and has the biggest resourced uranium asset in the world. Make no mistake. The expansion will go ahead and Olympic Dam will be subsumed by a gargantuan air space over one of the largest holes we humans have ever dug. The mine will then become the largest copper mine in the world instead of being number 5.
Instead of trashing around arguing about the carbon taxes and mining taxes we are going to have and going to keep while ever governments want money, the smart discussion would turn to getting serious value for our national assets. The uranium dug out of the South Ozzie desert will displace multi billions of tonnes of fossil fuel pollution. The smart discussion should turn to getting a share of th carbon credits for this asset.
