re: andrew bolt, re aust. response to cor
The tsunami victims aren't facing 20 years in jail for a conviction in a court that has no track record of anything other than guilty verdicts for drug charges.
Nor is it very gratifying when aid money is used to provide food which the Indonesian soldiers then SELL to the starving victims.
Australian aid money is supposed to be for reconstruction but what guarantee do we have that it won't go into officials' pockets. Which is not to say we shouldn't give the aid money but it is to offset the accusation of hypocrisy about Corby.
Sure the reaction is over the top but that aint bad and the whole affair is making people recognise the double standards re Hicks and asylum seekers and even the Bali 9. Maybe after all this the Australian public will be more sympathetic across the board to harsh punishments, unequal treatment and to human rights such as the right to be assumed innocent until PROVEN guilty and that doesn't mean just having drugs in your bag after it's been through three baggage handling stages and totally out of your control.
Nobody should be convicted just on 'possession' that is defined as something in their bag. Not without corroborating evidence such as prints, recorded confession, etc etc.
One other thing - some people have said the customs officer testified that Corby said this and that and looked nervous. That is BULLSHIT!!!!!!
Customs officers and police are TRAINED PERJURERS not just in Indonesia but almost anywhere in the world and they are VERY CREDIBLE because of it. They know what to say to get a conviction and they say it.
Without film or a recording to back up that smiling little customs officer with the Amrozi smile I would never believe him. It's very suspicious that they would not allow the bag to be fingerprinted and the bag seems to have disappeared - funny that.
