The 'fill or kill' strategy could have something to do with a desirable tax strategy to complete the transaction by June 30th, perhaps a rollover or reinvestment of existing Capital Gains to minimise tax...who knows?
His attention is obviously on RRL and I doubt his interest will evaporate going forward in the new FY. Having said that - there are no guarantees either way. As a disclosure I am a long term holder, RRL is my largest position in my portfolio and well under water atm however I have no intention of selling.
His mgt team would have obviously developed a comprehensive business case before such a large investment and in my view that is probably the best guide to the future of the company available to a retail shareholder at this time. One can argue financial analysis of the company, hedge book, broader economic picture, etc., etc., but still will not have as much analysis and inside info as he would have.
