@oddle calm down and take some breath. You are clearly very anxious and I expect took a beating on Friday like we all did. China does not want to take all of Australia, or even war with Australia. We are nothing but a resource pool. Our threat to China is no more than the itch of a flea.
For thousands of years nations have wanted what other nations have. They fear the rising, the fear the strong. For thousands of years we have fought/killed to take what we want. There is no difference now except the new foe on the block like many before do not share our values systems and thus we have hatred.
It is not China fault that we have such expensive labour that we no longer make steel. We suckle from China while is suits us, and hate them when it doesn't. We are all (free world) just as guilty for the atrocities of China, we allowed it to happen in our own interests in the early 1900's and now it comes to haunt us.
I for one would like to start generating steel here in Australia, green if possible. And mandate every new home has this steel. That every government contract has this steel.
but... the free market does not care about child slavery and human rights when we buy our customers and TV.
As for FMG, we are well placed to be all these things, but not with the dividends we pay. Stop paying for 12mths and reinvest in diversification and delivery, watch the haters hate now. I hold this long for my children, I don't need to be rich tomorrow.
