News articles today suggest that China will now try to cripple the Australian economy by cutting our steel supply.
Australia imports 70% of its steel from China and they believe that by restricting supply that our economy will stall and suffer irreparable damage.
I suppose their short-term objective is to have a change of the Australian government by manipulation of our economy.
If this isn’t a compelling enough reason for us to start producing Green steel for not only our consumption but for worldwide supply then nothing is.
We forget that we in fact hold some of the trump cards such as a plentiful supply of iron ore, sun and wind for energy and a stable country politically ( type of) that will be a reliable supplier to the world steel market and I am sure that with latest technology we could produce at competitive prices even though green steel will attract a premium price.
Its time for us to commit to moving out from under the shadows of the Chinese and as a substantial holder of FMG I would like to see some positive news coming out of the upcoming AGM as we are sitting ducks waiting for the axe to fall when the Chinese get their other suppliers lined up ( Afghanistan,Simandou etc)
Lets put them on the back foot for once .
