@rabbitoh, the fact is that Andrews bowed to pressure from Morrison and opened Vic up too soon... He tried to argue against such citing the schools as a key example and what happened? schools were closed because of new infections which spread to families and into workplaces. The relaxation of restriction led to partying and family visits when covid was still rife.
Now Morrison is trying to re-open Vic too early again and get him "on the bus" (a stupid analogy). Andrews is following medical advice. I understand virus transmission and the way viruses mutate and spread. While infections are still above 10/week there is a real risk and high probability that restrictions will need to be returned if they open up now.
NSW is battling to contain the virus and its is costing a packet, but they are doing a great job... still its too soon to open borders to Qld or SA. The move, ent of people trying to avoid the Vic crisis sparked new infections in NSW and Qld... SA had a couple but closed their borders very quickly (well done)
I understand why Morrison is trying to re-open the economic flood gates... the fiscal bill is getting too high and he wants to get the economy functioning. But re-opening too soon will severely damage the economy as businesses will be unable to function with covid spreading from Vic to other states.
You can't hurry a medical emergency. Andrews is right, regardless of his politics.
