The head of the Commonwealth Games has said that the federation is considering legal action against the state government of Victoria, Australia, after the shock decision to abandon hosting the 2026 Games.
Victoria’s Labor premier, Daniel Andrews, outraged international games officials and stunned athletes when he said Australia’s second most populous state could no longer afford spiralling costs of the multi-sport event, which officials said had more than doubled to as much as £3.6 billion.
