    There are indeed many reasons local councils get into financial trouble that leads to the appointment of administrators.

    Near where I live in NE Vic Wangaratta's Council suffered from similar problems to those of the federal Liberal Party - it was sacked.

    Decades ago the Wodonga Council was sacked but learnt nothing - after having splurged roughly $50 million to establish the 'Logic Distribution Centre' and even more on new Cattle Yard to attract / assist businesses at ratepayers' expense; it's virtually terminated support such as meals on wheels for older people and holds the state record for having the highest rates for the longest period of time.

    Then there's the Geelong Council - one that run amok under 'flamboyant leadership'. It seemed to be unable even to host the proposed 2026 Comm Games events despite the promise of State Govt support.

    Of course some suffer diabolical natural disasters beyond their control while others struggle due to population decline.
