Two world-class swimming pools set to be built for the Commonwealth Games will be ripped out and replaced with different sporting facilities once the 2026 event is over.
The Andrews government has designated Geelong as the host city for swimming, para swimming and diving events at the Games, which are being held across regional Victoria for the first time.
Scoping documents show a purpose-built aquatics facility will be built in the growth suburb of Armstrong Creek, with the $110m plan including twin 50m swimming pools and a diving pool, as well as roads and other connecting infrastructure.
However, two pools will be temporary structures, with companies bidding for the project told it would be transformed to a multi-discipline community centre following the international event."
