I did say I sucked at metaphors.. ;-)

I guess the first of my two interpretations is what you you were suggesting. Sometimes it's hard to convey ones thoughts accurately on the internet and equally hard to interpret sometimes. Using your metaphor, I am searching and searching hard for my saplings, with some success. There are a lot of trees to look behind and I am still at the beginning of the forest. Speaking of confidence mine has taken a bit of a hit since I started this journey. I did all the right things but I missed a fundamental part in my option trading plan and the the recent correction showed me my flaw. I'm not blaming the markets and I only lost a small amount of money. If I hadn't done my homework on risk management I wouldn't have the funds to have another crack at it. I am working my ass off to get it right this time and all the suggestions in here are greatly appreciated.
