Anglo holds talks on $325m Brazil niobium expansion:
SÃO PAULO (Metal-Pages) 05-Jul-13. Anglo American boss Mark Cutifani has met with Goiás state governor Marconi Perillo in central Brazil to discuss a previously announced $325 million investment, which will see niobium production doubled, the website of Exame magazine reported.
Once work is completed, the plant will be able to process 6,500 tonnes of niobium.
The niobium investment comes as part of a package that will also see $1 billion invested by Anglo American into its phosphate division, which will also double production.
Anglo American may also increase investments in nickel and ferro-nickel operations in Goiás, the report said.
In Europe, ferro-niobium, sometimes used in place of or alongside ferro-vanadium is fetching $40-40.75/kg.
