grantmac, I do not have time to explain in detail however if you look at the chart below it shows the gap between real house prices and wages. The only other factor when considering affordability is interest rates.
Based on the house prices, household income and interest rates in 1990, it would equate to roughly 24% interest rates for today's first home buyers.
