Other diseases such as typhoid and scarlet fever also declined at the same rate as measles/whooping cough/polio/mumps etc even though no vaccines were developed. IMO the whole thing was a stroke of luck for the vaccine manufacturers getting in just at the right time. Diseases run their course.

Yes, I had a cousin on the iron lung. And I had measles, mumps and chicken pox, but that was fine. Each was worth two weeks off school. I was hoping to get whooping cough as that was worth four weeks off and you got to go down a coal mine as part of the cure. Although my mother (a nurse) and my father (an ex-coal miner) probably wished otherwise!
