    If you would listen to the experts in infectious diseases, they will tell you that a decent proportion of measles cases require hospitalisation.

    In sub-Saharan Africa, measles has a 10% mortality rate. Even in Australia, the mortality rate is at least 0.1%. Anywhere from 10-30% of people with measles will need admission to hospital.

    Let's put these numbers into reality. If there was no measles vaccine, everyone would be infected with measles at some point. There are currently 300,000 or so babies born in Australia every year. That would mean at least 300 deaths per year, every year, just as a result of measles. Never mind all the other potential problems measles can cause.

    Your anecdotal evidence of your own measles experience does not reflect what the disease is like to a community.
