The law of nature and survival dictates that it is proper and expected to kill the beast for our survival.

Go for a swim with a crocodile and you will be lunch.
Sit down by a park bench with your freindly pack of hyena and see how far you get.
Play scrable beside a joshua tree next to a hungry lion.
Let a wild hungry boar into your lounge room

We fear being eaten by the beast.... that is NATURE.
Fortunately humans are endowed with the intelligence to take dominion.

Perhaps we show compassion and sense of being civilised by not doing it the animal's way.
We eat very few species, we allow most species their own existence.

Under normal circumstances we do kill humanely. I dont think the crocodile does.
