Don't look into the base line too much.
The aim of the drug is to remove the HIV viral load (lower, what ever you want to describe it as). If after the short trial the VL drops significantly in comparison to the "placebo" then its a success. The other marker in that table is the CD4+ count. If that goes up and significantly compared to the placebo then it is a success.
The baselines are exactly that. You now have to see what the differences are at the end of the trial.
Hey, I am a long suffering holder (at 46c !) so I am not down ramping.
If compliance is an issue, then they should look at the slow released injectable meds. We are seeing good results with the injectable meds now, mainly because the biggest issue patients have is taking handfuls of tablets daily, or them upsetting their stomach.
What would be of interest is the range of results obtained from each group.!
