Facebook isn't the only social media linking website out there. They may have closed their doors but good scrapping code could get data from a range of sources. Hacking could be another way. I think it naive to think this couldn't be done.it's in the best interest of management to say no one else can do it. If you believe that to be the case, and 1pg can't gain access to that data again, then 1) it will become old redundant data at some point 2) they can't access new entrants into the employment market (ie those who were 16 with no fb account when data was scraped but are now in their 20s looking for a job).
