Imagine a world in which the current AUS government announces "For many years we have banged on about supporting Australian industry, creating lovely headlines with little or no tangible outcomes, unless you consider ship building in marginal seats contributing to our re-election as an outcome. Well, we have been forced to raise defence spending, so we considered where this money would go. Most of us thought it would be a good idea to support our soldiers, sailors and airmen by funding increased compulsory re-education on climate change and gender identity, with a sprinkling of more frequent welcome to country smoke ceremonies. A much smaller minority of our government had this crazy idea to support our troops with Australian-built, cutting edge weapons under this weird 'deter is better than defend' model. A model where Australia would have a ring of defensive weapons that actually protect us in a tangible way, vs protecting our moral and psychological wellbeing through spending on re-education programs. Well, amazingly we have decided to try something different. The government will increase spending to 3.5% of GDP and buy Australian made land and space weapons that actually do something to protect us!"
