Yeah .. they really need to realise that when the shit hits the fan they will really need deference to have industry here in Australia making and maintaining and supplying on demand, not waiting weeks for the Yanks to eventually decided to maybe ship things to us, if we ask nicely and pay bigly in lots of hard assets, (such as maybe most of Western Australia and its mineral resources, like Ukraine has found out). The covid pandemic should have clued them up to how you must have significant meaningful locally manufactured critical resources, and that was nothing even close to military event that shuts down supply-chains. We need to up our defence spending, yet not buy from the Yanks which is what they want, faunal the increased spending in to building industry and R&D here, and only partnering with foreigners that put industry in Australia and don't hold us over a barrel when it comes to using any of it like the US AECA and ITAR. You buy Yankee defence and your losing your own sovereign control of your defences, losing your own independence, letting the preferable modern 'Red Coats' march in and lord it over you, which defeats the entire purpose of defence.
