Similar position. Was sitting on c$5.50 worth of capital gains and thought, what are the chances of QBE paying out that level over the next few years and not having any further disappointing results.
So, lock in the gains and reinvest at a risk-free rate of around 4.5% or continue to hold.
Dividends are also taxed at a high marginal tax rate even with franking, while capital gains are lightly taxed, if at all if you are a SCV/Temporary resident. QBE still look good, but on balance it was easy to take the money and redeploy.
