I compared the market shares by category disclosed at the AGM in October 2021 compared with the latest figures obtained in late December 2021/early January 2022.
It isn't much of a time gap, but BGA has increased its market share in chilled juices by four per cent to 28 per cent (good, bearing in mind this category is growing by 3.9 per cent) and similarly BGA's share of the fast growing (up 12 per cent) segment of plant-based beverages rose by one percentage point to 26 per cent.
In milk-based beverages (Big M, Dare, Dairy Farmers, Farmers Union flavoured milk and the like, BGA's share dropped by one per cent to a still excellent 49 per cent.
Surprising to see that the 'spreads' category overall (not just BGA sales) declined by 0.8 per cent but perhaps the 'lockdown effect' is wearing off.
Overall, given extreme COVID_19 headwinds including many smaller retail outlets such as cafes hit hard by lockdowns, this is a fairly pleasing result from BGA.
